'We enjoy a proud heritage of looking after the land, which we are keen to uphold and develop for the future.'

| | Farming HeritageThe farming operations
have been the Estate's core business for many generations, with records
of the same family farming back as far as 1400s. Its continued success
is due to the experience and talents of Richard, 'Tiger', Rob and
Stephen. Today it grows a diverse range of crops from milling wheat and
malting barley to break crops such as sugar beet, field beans and
oilseed rape. On the permanent grassland, we have a mixed suckler herd
of Limousin and Belgian Blue beef cattle. A truly mixed farming
operation.
With varying soil types from heavy clay to light
stony, the farmland relies on rotations and the expertise of our
agronomists, Christina and Lindsay. Rotations are based upon the use of
break crops to maximize the area of first wheat grown. Modern equipment
is employed, with outside contractors for specialist operations. The
Arable Unit is accredited under the Assured Scheme for Combinable Crops
Scheme (ACCS).
The farms have for many years been involved in
various environmental schemes such as the Countryside Stewardship Scheme
(CSS) in agreement with Natural England and with organisation such as
Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) which aim to deliver
effective enivronmental management. One example is to create a
comprehensive network of 6 meter grass margins alongside arable fields
and beetle banks for birds, insects and mammals. |
